GWERNYMYNYDD VILLAGE NEWS September 2008 Community Council At the July meeting, Chairman Elwyn Owens welcomed again the three newest members, Councillors Marjorie Thomson, Rachel Morrell and Heather Roberts and also PC Gary Aldous. PC Aldous reported just one crime carried out during the past month. An intruder entered the back garden of a house in Cadole where a window was smashed. He also warned members that scrap metal theft was greatly on the increase and that residents should be warned to lock away tools and equipment etc. He said he was pleased to report there was an anti-social behaviour watch in operation locally concerning such things as under-age drinking. Members were invited on a trip due to take place the following week to visit the Police Control room at St Asaph. This was gladly accepted by several members. Cllrs. Liz Parry, Rachel Morrell and Heather Roberts were appointed as the Play Area sub-committee. Members were informed that Gwernymynydd came joint second in the Best Kept Senior Citizens Estate competition. The resulting Awards Presentation will be held at Deeside College on Friday September 19th with County Cllr. Nancy Matthews and Cllr. Keith Taylor attending. The chairman praised the hard work of the residents of Blaen Wern, who have been successful in the annual competition for several years running. Cllr. Tom Barley said a hole in the road had re-appeared at Cadole. Patching up on the A494 as Cadole has taken place, but the community council is awaiting a promised a complete re-surfacing to be carried out. On the site of the former Carmel Chapel, a damaged sign has been removed and the grass cut. Further work is to be undertaken by Flintshire County Council after road improvements have been carried out by the Welsh Assembly. A letter of thanks has been received from Gwernymynydd C.P. School for a grant of £600 for the support and maintenance of the school library. The next meeting is on Thursday September 25th at the Village Centre at 7.15pm.The public is always welcome to attend and also present is County Cllr Nancy Matthews should anyone need her help or advice. |
