GWERNYMYNYDD VILLAGE NEWS October 2008 Community Council At the September meeting, Chairman Elwyn Owens welcomed back the members after the August break. He said PC Gary Aldous who was unable to attend the meeting, had reported that just one crime had been committed during the past month. This was graffiti at the Village Centre - still under investigation. He said although fingerprint tests had proved inconclusive, other evidence was being tested for DNA. The chairman said that as most people knew by now, the application to re-open Bryn Gwyn Quarry had failed, much to the relief of the residents of this and neighbouring villages. He asked that the gratitude of the Community Council be conveyed to all who supported the opposition to the re-opening. The council has also written to Flintshire County Council praising the opposition team for its well-researched evidence and impressive performance. He said D.P. Williams had been given six weeks to appeal against the decision and the time had not yet expired. Cllr. Heather Roberts said speeding in the Tros y Wern estate was causing concern, especially in the vicinity of the school. It was agreed that on a date to be arranged, four community councillors will meet to discuss the problem and interested members of the public will be invited to join them. Cllr. Tom Barley said speeding through Cadole was also a problem. He said the costing of a street light installation is still awaited. Cllr. Liz Parry said a felled tree in a pathway between houses on the estate was still sprouting and causing a nuisance. A request for an inspection is to be made to F.C.C. Cllr. Marjorie Thomson attended a meeting of One Voice Wales at County Hall. She said a proposal to introduce a training course for community councillors had been made and was under consideration. The members are considering a proposal to place a publication of some years ago, A History of Gwernymynydd on to Gwernymynydd’s website www.gwernymynydd.co.uk A request by Cllr. Keith Taylor to re-print the publication was rejected on account of the cost. A request was made for the replacement of a plaque for the Village Field gate recording the gift of the field to the village children by the Waln family in 1937. This had been removed and lost some time ago, and members unanimously agreed to its replacement. County Cllr. Nancy Matthews has complained to the Trunk Road Agency about the collapsing manholes in Cadole and has asked for a thorough repair instead of the unsatisfactory patch-up jobs carried out so far.
