GWERNYMYNYDD VILLAGE NEWS November 2008 Community Council At the October meeting, Chairman Cllr. Elwyn Owens welcomed PCSO Andrea Ellis, standing in for PC Gary Aldous, and her colleague PC Lang. Constable Ellis said she was pleased to report that once again there was just one crime this month when an incident concerning a stolen number plate was investigated. She was told by Cllr. Carl Jackson of an incident involving abusive language from youngsters – not all from the village, who were rebuked for dangerous behaviour. The complaint was taken no further, but Constable Ellis asked all such incidents be reported. The chairman said that although the time limit for appeal against the refusal to permit the re-opening of Bryn Gwyn Quarry had now passed, despite his enquiries it was still not known whether or not the owner D.P. Williams, had decided to do so. Cllr. Chris Bradshaw is to pursue the matter with Delyn AM Sandy Mewies. The chairman said the development of the Youth Club (ages 11-18) was proving disappointing and said this may partly be due to it being open only once monthly. The organisers are writing to the young people who have previously shown interest, to invite them to the next meeting on Tuesday November 11th and the following one on Tuesday December 9th. He said the involvement of parents had also been a disappointment. “The Community Council is keen to see the Youth Club thriving and successful -the youngsters’ suggestions for activities and anything else will be more than welcome,” he said. The replacement of the original sign on the Village Field gates is being pursued. The plaque marked the gift of the field to the villagers by the Waln family of Fron Hall in 1937. Work has started on the construction of a footpath on the south side of the A494 through Gwernymynydd. The community council did ask for the lay-by to be retained and for information on road markings. However it appears the contract has been awarded without notification to this council. The chairman told members that the publication A History of Gwernymynydd had now been installed on the Gwernymynydd website www.gwernymynydd.co.uk The next meeting is on Thursday November 27th at the Village Centre starting at 7.15pm. The public is always welcome to attend, and also present at the meetings is County Cllr. Nancy Matthews should anyone need her help or advice. |
