Community Council

At the October meeting of the Community Council, Chairman Keith Taylor welcomed the members and PC Gary Aldous. PC Aldous said he was pleased to report that apart from a matter still under investigation by the police, it had been a quiet month in Gwernymynydd and Cadole.

The chairman told members that the Public Inquiry regarding Bryn Gwyn Quarry previously planned to cover three days, had now been extended to four, from 26th February to the 29th.

County Councillor Nancy Matthews who was unable to attend the meeting, sent a report in which she said the site meeting at Siglen Ucha might possibly be held on 12th November. Any member of the public wishing to attend, can check the date by contacting her on 01352 757328

Flintshire County Council has installed the Gwernymynydd sign on the A494 on the approach to the village from Cadole. This is in response to a request from the Community Council, following complaints from motorists unaware they had reached Gwernymynydd.

The members heard that once again the Flintshire Summer Playscheme in Gwernymynydd had been a big success. In the 5-week programme, Week One catered for 75 youngsters. In Week Two it was 145. Week Three 210, Week Four, 275, and in Week Five, 332. The

Community Council contributes a share of the cost of running the F.C.C. scheme.

The annual Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday November 11th at 11am at the War Memorial in the Village Centre grounds. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.A.B. McCabe and a wreath laid on behalf of the community by 2nd World War Royal Navy veteran Mr. Harry Beadles of Uwch y Dre.

The next meeting is on Thursday November 29th at 7.15pm.at the Village Centre .Also present is County Cllr Nancy Matthews, should anyone need her help or advice.
