GWERNYMYNYDD VILLAGE NEWS June 2008 Community Council The May meeting was the AGM and held three weeks early to fit the requirements of the start of the 4--year electoral term. The election of chairman and vice-chairman was held. Cllr Elwyn Owens was unanimously voted chairman and Cllr. Chris Bradshaw vice-chairman – again unanimously. Cllr. Owens thanked retiring chairman Keith Taylor for his hard work and dedication over the past 12 months, a sentiment which received the wholehearted support of the council. Cllr. Taylor had earlier expressed the pleasure of the members at the well- deserved recent re-election of County Cllr. Nancy Matthews. He praised her regular attendance at both Gwernymynydd and Nercwys C.C. monthly meetings, and her continued awareness of local problems, with which she never failed to help. Chairman Cllr. Owens welcomed a new member to the council, Marjorie Thomson. He wished her long and happy service and thanked her for her interest in the welfare of the local community. Three members had retired, Mair Bellis, Roy Astbury and John McCormick. He expressed much appreciation for the service they had given, and said the contribution each had made to the council and the community they served was enormous. A fourth member, Liz Parry, had unavoidably missed the application date for the new electoral term, but at the meeting, was nominated as a co-opted member. Two other people were nominated for co-option to replace the retired members. Community Council Clerk Martin Richardson has written to all three for confirmation of their acceptance. Cllr. Tom Barley asked that warning of a telephone scam be publicised having received two phone calls recently when he was offered the chance of winning fabulous prizes if he pressed the number nine button – a high-cost phone line !! The next meeting is on Thursday June 26th at the Village Centre at 7.15pm. The public is always welcome to attend and also present is County Cllr. Nancy Matthews should anyone need her help or advice. |
