Community Council

Following the retirement of Cllrs. Roy Astbury, Mair Bellis and John McCormick, as previously reported, Mrs. Bellis has been presented with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her many years as a member. Chairman Elwyn Owens said “Mrs. Bellis is one of our longest serving members and we wanted to acknowledge her work and dedication- especially for senior citizens. We were very sorry to lose all three members, but wish them much enjoyment of their well deserved retirement” Another recipient of praise was Clerk to the Council Martin Richardson. At the recent AGM, former chairman Keith Taylor thanked him for the support given to the Chair and to the council members over and above his office duties.

At the June meeting, Chairman Elwyn Owens welcomed PCSO Andrea Ellis who was deputising for PC Gary Aldous. She told members she would be passing on any problems emerging at the meeting to PC Aldous. The chairman also welcomed Rachel Morrell, recently nominated as a new member of the council. One other nominated member had yet to confirm acceptance. The other Community Councillors are: Chairman Elwyn Owens, Vice Chairman Chris Bradshaw, Tom Barley, Carl Jackson, Liz Parry, Gwyn Morris, Olive Sweetman., Keith Taylor and Marjorie Thomson.

Representatives appointed to the various Outside Bodies were confirmed or nominated.

The chairman invited Cllr. Bradshaw to explain to members the proposal for a Gwernymynydd Development Plan he was hoping to introduce. Cllr. Bradshaw explained the plan would enable the community council to put forward its own suggestions for development in Gwernymynydd to the county council. A sub-committee of Elwyn Owens, Keith Taylor and Carl Jackson was formed to support Cllr. Bradshaw. The continued services of Mr. Dave Griffiths of Godre’r Coed as Internal Auditor for the council for 2008-09 were approved.
