GWERNYMYNYDD VILLAGE NEWS

February 2008

Community Council

At the January meeting, Chairman Keith Taylor told the members that the date of the February meeting would take place a week earlier and hope that members of the public will also wish to attend. The earlier meeting is called to inform everyone of the forthcoming Public Inquiry into the owners’ planning application to re-open Bryn Gwyn Quarry. This is opposed by the Community Council and those of neighbouring villages. The Public Inquiry is on Tuesday February 26th at the Village Centre starting at 10am. Residents of Gwernymynydd and local villages are being urged to attend as an unfavourable decision would have a long-reaching, detrimental affect on the area.

Last year, at the November meeting, the members unanimously objected to a planning application by Flintshire County Council which was approved by the Welsh Assembly. This was for proposed alterations at the junction of Heol-y-Wern and the A494 which they considered undesirable and unnecessary. To the relief of the members a letters has been received from Sandy Mewies AM member for Delyn who presented Gwernymynydd’s case to the Deputy First Minister Wyn Jones. She reports that the plans have now been dropped. A letter of thanks has been sent to her.

Flintshire County Council’s Summer Playscheme will once again operate in Gwernymynydd during the long holiday. It’s from 1.30 to 3.30 from Monday to Friday each week in the school field, and in bad weather the youngsters are escorted over to the Village Centre .The cost of the project is subsidised by the Community Council by £834, covering programming, management and supervision. This is the 12th year of operation and the enterprise has always proved very successful and popular.

The next meeting of the Community Council is on Friday February 22nd at 7.15pm.at the Village Centre starting at 7.15pm which residents are urged to attend.
