Community Council

At the November meeting of the council, Chairman Keith Taylor welcomed PC Gary Aldous. The police officer reported two crimes committed in the past four weeks, one an assault and the other a case of theft taking place at a teenage party. Also a road traffic accident had occurred involving a young man suspected of drink driving. Fortunately no other vehicle was involved, but PC Aldus asked the council to remind residents that with Christmas almost upon us, drivers should be warned of the danger to themselves and others of the drink-driving combination. He also asked parents to discourage youngster from holding unsupervised parties.

The members unanimously objected to a planning application by Flintshire County Council and approved by the Welsh Assembly for proposed alterations at the junction of Heol y Wern and the A494. This included replacing the dedicated bus-slip road with a standard type approved bus bay. The members consider the plan undesirable and unnecessary.

A reply was received from the Civil Aviation Authority regarding a complaint about noise pollution, caused by an increase in passenger aircraft flying over Gwernymynydd. The members were told this is due to increased activity on Runway 9 at John Lennon Airport, often due to wind direction dictating take-off position. Although Gwernymynydd’s clerk had contacted 18 other Town/Community Councils, only Flint Town Council had reported similar complaints.

Cllr. Roy Astbury reported that following heavy rain, water was streaming down both sides of the A494 from the Rainbow Inn to Cadole. He said gullies being cleared failed to solve the problem and asked for an inspection of the complete draining system to be carried out.

As always, there is no meeting of the council in December, the next being on Thursday January 31st at 7.15pm.at the Village Centre. Also present at the meetings is County Cllr. Nancy Matthews, should anyone need her help or advice.
