Community Council

Over 40 local residents attended a Special Public Meeting at the Village Centre on June 1st. when the Community Council outlined the key elements of the Village Development

Plan. Policy statements agreed by the Council were presented, with the residents invited to comment and debate. Chairman Chris Bradshaw opened the meeting by thanking the Steering Group who had worked hard over the last 12 months to develop the plan. He followed by outlining the process taken in involving the community and Flintshire County Council in the plan development. Former Chairman Elwyn Owens presented the details of the four Policy statements which are Community & Social Development, Environment, Traffic & Transport, and Housing. A lively debate followed each statement, with issues raised being taken forward to the following Steering Group meeting which was arranged to take place on June 9th.

  Meeting June 9th:

This was a lively well-attended meeting with feedback from the Public meeting first on the agenda. As expected, Housing and Development had produced a lively discussion and in response to comments made and after further discussion, amendments were made to the policy statements. It was recognised that several of the proposals in the plan which will not be finalised until later this year, were already being put into action by various groups such as road safety improvements and social development. More details of the plan were submitted to the group for comment, with feedback expected at the next meeting. Leaders Cllr.  Elwyn Owens and Chris Bradshaw were actioned to further engage with Flintshire County Council to determine how the village plan will relate to their future Local Development Plan.

Gwernymynydd Pantomime

At a meeting inspired by suggestions made to the Development Plan Group, the supporters decided first on Aladdin for a possible production for next January – but discovered hours later it was to be staged professionally in the local area. The members then voted unanimously for Cinderella – and providing all goes to plan, this will be the early 2011 production! Group leaders Elwyn Owens and Chris Bradshaw say the search is now on for cast members and for people interested in production, costumes, props etc. Ring Sharon Godwin 01352 759209 or e-mail elwyn.owens@virgin.net  Or come to

the next Pantomime meeting on July 6th 8pm Swan Inn. Everyone very welcome!
