April 2010 Newsletter
April 2010 Community Council At the March meeting, popular Clerk to the Council Martin Richardson received an enthusiastic welcome from chairman Elwyn Owens and the members, following his short illness and stay in hospital. The members were pleased his recovery had been so speedy. Also welcomed were PC Gary Aldous and PCSO Andrea Ellis. PC Aldous said since the last meeting, there had been a burglary in the village, the victim being an elderly pensioner who was receiving support from friends and the police. However he was pleased to report the good news that road accident victim Mrs Sue Richards was now recovering well. The council was due to attend two meetings the following day March 26th, one of which, with the Trunk Road Agency, it had long been campaigning for. This concerned dangerous parking at Cadole and Loggerheads. The other was with Flintshire County Council concerning unsatisfactory conditions on the A494. The chairman itemised important questions to be asked and said PC Aldous would also be present. Many local householders have reported difficulty with Broadband connections, and County Councillor Nancy Matthews and the Community Council are pursuing the matter. Village Centre chairman Keith Taylor said a new caretaker had been appointed and would be starting work shortly. Hs said a concert in December had been provisionally booked, pending confirmation from the committee. Members voted a grant of £200 to the Senior Citizens committee towards the cost of an outing to Southport in July. The chairman said the Youth Club was thriving with membership growing. He is asking the County Council to consider increasing the meetings from once a month to two. Village Development Plan Group leader Chris Bradshaw said the sub group had been busy during the past four weeks producing a pamphlet to be delivered with the April Newsletters. The Community Council has joined with the Village Centre committee to organise an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Centre and the production of the Village Development Plan. The Gwernymynydd Festival is on May 9th with items of interest to the whole family including exhibitions, musical interludes, classic cars, Bouncy Castle, refreshments, a raffle, a photographic competition and Development Plan Showcase. The Festival is from 11am to 3.30pm and admission is free. The next Community Council meeting is on Thursday April 29th. Gwernymynydd Community Council meets on the last Thursday of the month at the Village Centre at 7.15pm and the public is always welcome to attend.
