March 2010 Newsletter
March 2010 Community Council At the meeting of the Development Plan Steering Group on February 8th, there was a stimulating debate between the seventeen people present. .Key issues from the four focus groups (Housing Development, Traffic and Transport, Social and Environment) were discussed and would be included in the ‘Key Issues Pamphlet’ It was agreed that the Key Issues should be presented in the pamphlet as statements of opinion and proposals rather than as questions Also discussed was the May 9th 2010 event, a joint project of the Village Centre committee and the Community Council celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Village Centre and highlighting the community’s Development Plan. It was agreed that a joint working group would be set up between the Village Centre and the Community Council to bring together the events on the day. Keith Taylor and Chris Bradshaw will co-ordinate the work. At the following meeting on February 22, the 17 members of the team discussed at length the Key Issues pamphlet which will be distributed to every home in Gwernymynydd and Cadole in the near future. Several amendments were proposed and will be reviewed at the next meeting on March 8th in the Village Centre at 7.30pm - to which everyone is welcome. On Monday February 24th Chairman and Vice-Chairman Elwyn Owens and Chris Bradshaw were invited by Mold Town Council as part of the Town’s Community strategy, to advise them on Gwernynynydd’s approach to the development of a Community Plan. The presentation was well received and was followed by a lively question and answer session. At the monthly meeting of the Community Council the following evening, Cllrs. Owens and Bradshaw brought the members up to date with the Steering Group’s progress and distributed draft copies of a pamphlet explaining what is currently being considered by the group, covering the next 20 years .The two Council leaders and group members were praised by the council for their commitment to the project. Speeding on the A494 and the Cadole/Loggerheads road-parking complaints by the Chairman to MP’s had resulted in the Trunk Road Agency at last agreeing to a meeting with the Community Council in Gwernymynydd and arranged for March 26th.The Community Council has been asking for a reduction in the speed limit – or at least for a meeting, for several years without success. PC Gary Aldous sent in a report. He said no crimes had been committed during the past month. Several accidents due to the icy road conditions had been reported in Swan Lane, Glyndwr Road and one in Ruthin Road. No casualties were reported. A request is to be made to Flintshire County Council for the two minor roads to be gritted in future. There was a unanimous vote against the proposed Welsh Boundary changes, involving Gwernymynydd & Nercwys – presently represented by one county councillor, to Cilcain, Nannerch, Gwernaffield, Pantymwyn, Rhydymwyn and Gwernymynydd – and re-named Moel Arthur ward, with councillors reduced to just two. .Members consider the villages too wide apart to have much in common. (See Pages 5 -6) The chairman said the Youth Club was thriving, and hoped the number of meetings would soon increase from once monthly. The next monthly council meeting is on Thursday March 25th. at the Village Centre 7.15pm.
