Community Council

 * On January 15th, Community Council members met MP David Hanson, AM Sandy Mewies and PC Gary Aldous to discuss their ongoing worries about speeding on the A494, the indiscriminate parking at Cadole and the council’s attempts to communicate with the North Wales Trunk Road Agency. Chairman Cllr.Elwyn Owens explained to them, the council’s frustration that repeated efforts over several years to engage the Agency in the members’ concerns have fallen on deaf ears. Although co-operation has been received from Flintshire County Council and the Police, the N.W. Trunk Road Agency which is responsible for the A494 has so far ignored requests for a meeting. The Community Council has campaigned long and hard for a reduction in the speed limit from 40 mph, and a road accident near the Swan Lane junction on Christmas Eve in which a local woman was seriously injured has brought matters to a head. The situation at Loggerheads / Cadole is indiscriminate parking which is putting local people at risk. Pedestrians, including women with prams, are forced to leave the pavement which is blocked by parked cars. Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils which share the area, and the police have co-operated so far as they can. However, responsibility for action falls on the Agency.

NB:  Since the meeting, there as been progress at last. Sandy Mewies informed the chairman that representatives of the Agency have agreed to a meeting in Gwernymynydd on Friday March 26th. The news was received with relief by the members.

** On January 25th at the Development Plan Steering Group meeting it was agreed that further consultation with the community was necessary before the draft plan was issued. A Key Issues pamphlet would be prepared based on the two surveys of last year and the work done by the steering group. The Pamphlet would be issued in the early Spring, followed by a

questionnaire. The Key Issues will relate to Housing & Land Development, Transport & Roads, Social & Community Development, and The Environment. The group meets again on Monday 8th February at the Village Centre 7.30pm when the Key Issues from the four Focus groups will be available. Group Leader Cllr.Chris Bradshaw says everyone is welcome.

*** On January 28th at the Community Council meeting, PCSO Andrea Ellis in her police report was pleased to tell members that no crime had been reported since the last meeting in November. She regretted being unable to report on the A494 road accident on Christmas Eve as it is still under investigation. There were no other police matters. Chairman Elwyn Owens said the County Council has agreed to supply street-name signs for Hafod Drive, Ucha Dre and Cadole. Members reported the theft of grit from several grit-bins during the bad weather, apparently by a pick-up truck driver. The thief has not yet been traced. A grit-bin has been requested in Paddock Way and a damaged bin was replaced in Bryn Eithen. In response to a request from residents, members voted for a tree in Cadole to be felled. A request for a Polling Station has been made to the Village Centre committee for possible general election dates on 25th March, 6th May and 3rd June. A bouquet of flowers has been sent with the members’ good wishes to Mrs. Sue Richards of Blaen Wern who was seriously injured in the road accident on Christmas Eve.

The next meeting is on Thursday February 25th at the Village Centre 7.15pm.which the public is always welcome to attend.
