On June 23rd, the Development Plan steering committee welcomed eight volunteer members of the public who are joining them following the recent Showcase Gwernymynydd event. It was reported that 39 questionnaires had been completed and 47 comments were made on Post it notes. The questionnaire had focussed on Housing, The Environment and Transport. Although it became clear that Housing development will be of special importance and interest it was decided to circulate a further questionnaire to help choice of what activities should also be included in the Plan. A draft will be prepared for discussion at the next meeting which will take place on Tuesday July 28th at 7.30 in the Village Centre. Community Councillor Chris Bradshaw who is leading the work on the Plan said “We were delighted to be joined by 8 volunteers. It was a reasonable start but we hope that more will join us for the next meeting. Anyone who wants to help plan for our village is welcome”.

At the June meeting of the Community Council later in the week, Chairman Elwyn Owens welcomed PC Gary Aldous with his monthly report. He said a large number of crimes had been committed including a stolen car, 2 burglaries on the Tros-y-Wern estate, 3 sheds broken into in Cadole, also a garage in the Glyndwr area. Two youths from the Wrexham area were caught by police in Llay and were arrested. PC Aldous warned that even small windows should not be left open at night during the hot weather, and that keys, handbags and other valuables should not be left by open windows at any time.

He also said that on Wednesday July 1st, the police were holding a meeting for the Over 50’s at Clwyd Theatr Cymru starting at 10 am with refreshments provided. He said he hoped this would be well attended as it could be of much help to older people.

A letter of thanks was received from Gwernymyydd C.P. School for the Library support grant given by the council. Members voted for a grant of £200 be given to the Senior Citizens committee.

The next meeting is on Thursday 30th July. The community council meets on the last Thursday of the month at the Village Centre at 7.15pm and the public is always welcome to attend. County Councillor Nancy Matthews is also present at the meetings should anyone need her help or advice.
