Community Council
Gwernymynydd Community Council’s May meeting last week was the AGM. Cllr. Elwyn Owens was re-elected chairman for the second year, as was Vice-chairman Cllr. Chris Bradshaw. Cllr. Owens said he was delighted that he and Cllr. Bradshaw were to continue their partnership, leading in particular, the Community Development Plan, successfully launched recently with the exhibition ‘Showcase Gwernymynydd’ .He said that at the launch, seven residents had volunteered to help establish the Plan and as a result, a meeting was to be held on Tuesday June 23rd at 7.30 pm at the Village Centre, at which more volunteers would be welcome.
PCSO Andrea Ellis was welcomed to the meeting and said that just one crime had been committed during the past month, when criminal damage had been carried out at a property in Godre’r Coed. She said that PC’s Gary Aldous, Lucia Pritchard, Mark Sayer and herself were holding an ‘Over 50’s’ conference at Clwyd Theatr Cymru on July 1st at 10am which is designed to prepare this section of the community for the winter months - and at which refreshments will be provided. She said the conference will involve Police teams, Neighbourhood Watch, Help the Aged, Age Concern, Deeside College and the Red Cross. Leaflets are now being distributed.
Members were told that an appeal had been lodged against the County Council’s refusal of the
Tros-y-Wern Eco houses planning application. The community council and the public will be kept informed of developments.
Cllr. Olive Sweetman requested a dog-waste bin on the pavement between the Old Chapel and Cadole shop (preferably at the Gwernaffield turning) after complaints about dog-fouling. Cllr. Tom Barley said a complaint about blasting at Cefn Mawr Quarry on May 19th had been reported to the manager who said it was due to monitoring machine failure and apologised for the lapse. Cllrs. Keith Taylor and Carl Jackson reported requests for salt/grit bins at Llys Enfys and Blaen Wern. The members voted to purchase the bins, which would be filled by the County Council throughout the winter months.
The next meeting is on Thursday June 25th at the Village Centre at 7.15pm. The public is always welcome to attend and also present is County Cllr. Nancy Matthews should anyone need her help or advice.
