Community Council

At the April meeting of Gwernymynydd Community Council, the members discussed the launch of the Gwernymynydd Development Plan due to take place on May 10th. Showcase Gwernymynydd is an exhibition being held at the Village Centre from 11am to 3.30pm in which the local community will be invited to share in the future development of the village. A small steering committee was previously formed to organise the day in which local pubs, business and organisations will take part. Community Council chairman Elwyn Owens said he was grateful to the groups who had foregone their usual meetings and football match to accommodate the exhibition.

Cllr. Owens said he was pleased to report the recently-formed Youth Club was proving successful and that membership was growing. He said it was very probable the meetings would soon increase from one to two per month

On the vexed question of the parking of vehicles on the A494 Trunk Road and grass verges at Cadole/Loggerheads, no progress had yet been made. The police report the continuing difficulty of the area being in the county of Denbighshire and until this resolved, dealing with the situation is on hold.

Cllr. Keith Taylor as chairman of the Village Centre committee, thanked council clerk Martin Richardson for auditing the Centre’s accounts. He said the local Football clubs and Caravan Rally members would be pleased to know the ramp onto the playing field has been re-aligned and tarmacadamed.

At the request of Cllr. Tom Barley, Flintshire County Council.’s Highways department will be asked to give an official name to the road through Cadole. Cllr. Barley said it is known locally as the village road, but deliverers of goods and other strangers to the area find no mention of it on maps or other indicators.

Cllr. Liz Parry reported the Tros-y-Wern path is difficult to negotiate due to the sprouting of lopped-off trees and poorly maintained hedges. The difficulty will be reported to Flintshire County Council.

The next meeting is the AGM on Thursday May 28th. The community council meets on the last Thursday of the month at the Village Centre at 7.15pm and the public is always welcome to attend. County Councillor Nancy Matthews is also present at the meetings should anyone need her help or advice.
