Community Council

At the February meeting, Chairman Cllr. Elwyn Owens introduced Mr Gareth Davies, the owner of land at Tros-y-Wern on which he had applied for planning permission to build three large dwellings, each with wind-turbine. Mr. Davies, the owner of Osghan, a small building company, explained that although the community council had voted against the application, he still wanted to explain the company’s plans. The members listened and were invited by the chairman to ask questions. However following this, the council remained firmly behind its opposition to the plan. Cllr. Chris Bradshaw arranged to attend a site meeting on Monday March 2nd. (In the January newsletter, the applicants were wrongly described as the owners of Tros-y-Wern Farm. The editor apologises for this mistake).

PC Gary Aldous was invited to give his monthly report and said there had been three thefts to investigate. Three bicycles had been taken from a house in the village and so far only one had been recovered. There had been a theft of diesel from a local coach station and in Cadole, a workshop had been broken into and tools stolen. Regarding the nuisance parking at Loggerheads, he explained the difficulty of two-county involvement. The proposal at the meeting was for Denbighshire and Flintshire police, county and community councils to perhaps form a joint approach to the problem - and this is to be pursued.

Chairman Elwyn Owens and vice-chairman Chris Bradshaw gave details of the public launch of the Gwernymynydd Development Plan on Sunday May 10th. They produced a list of local businesses, public houses, groups and organisations, public bodies, local authorities etc. who will be invited to exhibit at the Village Centre. (See Page 5).

Flintshire County Council / Gwernymynydd Community Council Summer Playscheme 2009 is to take place from July 20th to August 21st. The partnership cost to the community council is given as £862.50.

County Councillor Nancy Matthews reported her complaint of the poor state of manhole covers - especially at Cadole to the Trunk Road Agency. Hopefully these will soon receive attention.

The next meeting of the council is Thursday March 26th. The community council meets on the last Thursday of the month at the Village Centre at 7.15pm and the public is always welcome to attend. County Cllr. Nancy Matthews is also present at the meetings should anyone need her help or advice.
