Community Council

The January meeting of the Community Council was attended by 23 members of the public who were there to voice objections to a Flintshire County Council planning application by the owners of Tros-y-Wern Farm. This was for three very large Eco-friendly houses each with a 45ft wind turbine. The application had initially received outline planning permission but this had since been delayed following objections from the Community Council. The plans will now go before the planning committee in March. At the meeting, objections on several counts were heard from residents in neighbouring Godre’r Coed who said the design and elevation meant their houses would be overlooked. A representative of the local Rainbow Ramblers listed the objections of the group, and said the wind turbines would be built within the green barrier. The general lack of consultation was deplored by all the speakers who said the plans were inappropriate and not in keeping with the local area. With the exception of a councillor who abstained due to personal interest, the members voted unanimously to oppose the application, and the public meeting was closed.

Chairman Elwyn Owens then invited PCSO Andrea Ellis, standing in for PC Gary Aldous, to give her report. She said she was pleased to say the past two months had been crime-free in Gwernymynydd and Cadole.

Chair and vice-chair Cllrs Elwyn Owens and Chris Bradshaw then reported on a meeting they had held with the Leader of Flintshire County Council, Cllr. Arnold Woolley. The meeting was also attended by Cllr .Nancy Matthews and Clerk Martin Richardson. The meeting addressed the matters listed in a letter sent to Cllr. Woolley beforehand, including a request to be kept informed about county council works or initiatives proposed for their area. They also discussed the newly-launched Gwernymynydd Development Plan with a progress report, pointing out the constructive approach the Community Council is adopting, and hoping it will be able to work closely at all stages with the county. Cllr.Woolly said he would consider the proposal and respond to the Community Council in due course. Meanwhile he is to discuss the matters raised with the executive.

The chairman said the playground sub-committee had reported the goal posts in the Village Field were in a dangerous condition and should be replaced. The members voted unanimous acceptance of the advice, and also for the replacement of nets on the Kickboard. Continued on page 4
