Chairman: Councillor K. Taylor

1. Apologies for Absence

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Mrs. O. Sweetman, Mrs. M. Bellis, J. McCormick, R. Astbury and G. Morris

2. Bryn Gwyn Quarry

The Clerk related to the Members the notes taken with respect to the letter that needs to be sent to the Planning Inspectorate, Welsh Assembly Government from the Council. The letter needs to be forceful and to emphasise the objection of the Council to the proposed re-opening of the Quarry for mineral extraction by D. P. Williams (Holdings) Ltd.

The Public Inquiry is scheduled for the 26th February 2008, and the letter including 3 copies has to be sent to the Inspectorate no later than 4 weeks before the date of the Inquiry.

Councillor Mrs. N. Matthews outlined to the Members the respective mineral policies, she provided information with regard to mineral extraction and related landbank reserves and emphasised that local residents need to be aware of the situation and that as many members of the public as possible need to be at the inquiry to show a united front against the re-opening of the quarry. Everyone needs to be aware that Flintshire County Council has issued a prohibition notice against D. P. Williams (Holdings) Ltd re-commencing quarrying and that the Council fully supports the action taken.

Councillor C. Bradshaw proposed that a public meeting be held to provide the necessary information to the community and Councillor E. Owens proposed that a press statement be released in the local newspapers to inform everyone about the situation.

This was put to the Members and approved unanimously.

The Clerk was requested to write the respective letter to the Planning Inspectorate taking into account all the points of objection to the re-opening of the quarry and to emphasise the Council’s support to Flintshire County Council’s issuing of the Prohibition Notice on D. P. Williams (Holdings) Ltd on the resumption of mineral working at the Bryn Gwyn Quarry.
